1st Anniversary Celebrations : 8th April 2018

Be it individuals or organization - the 1st birthday is always special. And the next big milestone for organizations could be its Silver Jubilee (25 years) or its Golden Jubilee (50 years). But 1st Anniversary is ALWAYS SPECIAL AND MEMORABLE.

And NCC Madurai is no exception. Preparations were in full swing - right from agenda, invitees, venue arrangements - every aspect was checked and rechecked. No stones were left unturned. In the end, everything ended well. Following is a Whatsapp feedback from a Chamber Charter Member at NCC Chennai - Mr.MuthuSubramanian, which sums up all:

"First Anniversary Celebration

Yesterday we had the privilege of being part of the first anniversary celebrations of the Madurai Chapter of NCC.

It was held at the sprawling TSM campus in their auditorium which could seat more than a 150 people. (And the hall was almost house full eventually) Our late Hon Member Manikam Ramaswamy Annan and his family have been so benevolent in giving their complete support - absolutely free right from the commencement of the Madurai Chapter. Hats off to the magnanimity of the family...

In typical NCC style the program commenced precisely on schedule even while people where trickling in on a Sunday evening.

EC member Easy Ramaswamy MCeed the event in his usual Easy Enjoyable style...

The welcome.address was delivered  by the Man behind the Madurai Chapter - Chapter President Dr.V.Ramakrishnan. Chapter Secretary Chinniah Velayutham gave us a comprehensive Annual report detailing all the events and initiatives of the Madurai Chapter over the last one year.

Our Chamber President PeriAnnan congratulated the Chapter and it's office bearers and even went to the extent that  everyone at NCC keenly look forward to the second Sunday of every month to see what the Madurai Chapter is going to do and commended them on a lot of new initiatives they have come up with in the last year.

This was followed by Mr.Arun Arunachalam's inspirational speech on the evolution of Aruna group. He packed his speech with so many takeaways that would be immensely invaluable to anyone who wants to conduct business and conduct it ethically and efficiently - the Aruna way....

Then it was the turn of our beloved mentor Tirupathi Annan to recount his arduous journey from being a top employee at ICICI to an entrepreneur on top of the world.....Rarely have we seen him speak about himself and it gave us a peak at the immense wisdom behind the steely demeanor....

Our very own EMC Palaniappan Annan, Chairman- IBCN 2019 then gave an introduction to IBCN 2019  for the Madurai audience and what are the exciting things coming their way....

Secretary Chinniah wound up the event on time with the Vote of Thanks......

The networking before, during and after the event was great to watch as people of all ages mingled together ....hearty handshakes, lively banter and amazing connections transpired and Madurai is clearly gearing up for the second year in style....

Sumptuous food followed in the lawn opening up the floor for further networking.

MA Annamalai, PLV Ganesh and myself Muthu Subramanian were the other members from Chennai attending the event.

On behalf of all of us , I would like to congratulate the President and office bearers of the Madurai Chapter (each of them have contributed immensely ) for a meticulously planned and well organized event. And above all it takes commendable efforts, dedication and focus to establish the Chapter and run it successfully over a year. Let the coming year bring greater traction among the members not only in the Chapter but across the Globe and help each other achieve greater heights individually and as a Chamber...

Let the magic continue..."

Entrepreneurial Journey of SIVA Foods Mr.Kathiresan Annamalai

Listening to successful people can be inspiring. Our meeting on 10th Jan 2018 was addressed by Madurai’s own homegrown industrialist, Mr.Kathiresan Annamalai of Poolankuruchi.. He is the Founder Proprietor of Siva foods.

Mr.Kathiresan was a studious and illustrious student even in his younger days. He did his B.Tech chemical engineering from REC Trichy, following it up with an M.Tech in chemical engineering from IIT, Madras. Taking after his illustrious industrialist grandfather in nerve and resolve, Mr.Kathiresan is extremely soft spoken and unassuming.

Making a choice to leave his grandfather’s firm and branch out on his own, he was into consumer trade for about twenty years all the while looking out for opportunities to start his industry. Siva chemicals was started followed by Siva foods, manufacturing Flubber jelly, wafers, biscuits and chocolates. He has an all India presence with his son supporting him and looking after the expansion in the north. Professing himself to be a listener and not a speaker, nevertheless he recounted his slow but fascinating journey to the top littering his speech with so many invaluable pointers effortlessly.

Do watch the video for his inspiring story.

Some of the valuable takeaway’s:

    • Don’t lose track of your goal whatever people may say, write to-do lists everyday, be decisive and many critical decisions need to be taken, retain patience and faith.
    • Though growth may not be visible, be sure that something is happening on the growth front .
  • Interesting info – now, he feels, is the right time to start business or industry in India with the onset of gst and various government schemes and benefits.
  • Central and north east India is a huge untapped market.

தோன்றின் புகழொடு தோன்றுக... Dr.S.Subramanian, Chief Medical Oncologist, VS Hospitals, Chennai @ NCC Madurai

தோன்றின் புகழொடு தோன்றுக அஃதிலார்
தோன்றலின் தோன்றாமை நன்று.
               (குறள் 236: புகழ் அதிகாரம்)

The meaning of this kural is : Before entering a profession or deed, a person must learn the required skills, a comprehensive knowledge and be sure that they earn fame through what they venture into.  If that’s not possible, it is better not to venture as such.

'தோன்றின் புகழொடு தோன்றுக' set the tone for our first meeting in 2018 on 7th January. Dr.S.Subramanian, renowned Oncologist, Chairman of VS Hospitals Chennai and Father in law of our president Dr.V.Ramakrishnan, addressed our NCC meeting at TSM,  Madurai. He was suitably introduced by his beloved grand daughter Ms.Krithikavalli Ramakrishnan who is just completing her MBBS under the able guidance and inspiration of her grandfather.

Dr.SS outlined the traits of Nagarathar's : Though Nagarathar's are often identified / recognized by their unique names, initials, phonetics, food style, hospitality and palatial houses, it is their humbleness, honesty and reliability that sets them apart.  நாகரத்தார்கள் நாணயமானவர்கள். The spiritual connect of Nagarathar's motivated them to involve in various charities for the welfare of public - be it construction / maintenance of temples and ponds or educational institutions. Their contribution to the language of Tamil has been lauded by many poets in various literatures. Infact, Nagarathars have become the role model for many in the society.

Though Dr.SS was a medical professional, post his retirement he started off with VS Hosptials at Chennai. Ably managed by his two sons, Dr.SS continues with his passion - Healing Patients.

Here are few tips that Dr.SS gave for the budding entrepreneurs:
Before venturing into entrepreneurial journey, prepare yourself for HARDWORK.
Involve WHOLE HEARTEDLY.
Though Nagarathars are intelligent by birth (thanks to the commerce that is in their blood), it is worth breaking up the factors that can influence success: They are:
          o IQ - Intelligent Quotient
          o EQ - Emotional Quotient
          o SQ - Spiritual Quotient

Intelligent quotient comprises Academic Intelligence + Worldly Knowledge + Common Sense.
Emotional Quotient refers to Emotional Stability / ability to remain neutral.
Spiritual Quotient includes Humanity, Empathy and Chasity.

Having known for honesty and reliability, it is essential that Nagarathars retain these traits in their business practice and maintains the quality of product / services.

With embedded entrepreneurial qualities and calculated risk taking abilities, Dr.SS encouraged members to explore opportunities and succeed in life. He summed up saying that - "If you need growth - then you need to CHANGE".

Listening to someone of his stature was a huge opportunity. NCC Members were enlightened with his advise. Here is the video of his address to NCCians @ Madurai.
